Dragonfly Meditation is a secular (non-religious) mindfulness based studio which offers meditation instruction, drop-in meditation, special workshops, and retreats.

Meditation Instructor Certification

Now an approved school through the International Meditation Teachers Association (IMTA)

 

Course Description:  The Dragonfly Meditation Instructor Certification prepares you to lead guided meditation in groups as well as with individuals. This course is designed to help you integrate and become familiar with the science that supports mindfulness practice as well as experience a range of mindfulness practices including body scans, walking meditation, eating meditation, loving kindness and more.

Instructor:  Ann Marie Arvoy, MA, LPC, Certified Meditation Instructor

Prerequisites:  Completion of the book “Mindfulness in Plain English” by Bhante Gunaratana and at least one year of meditation practice.

Objectives:  As a result of this course, you will be able to:

          *Define Mindfulness and Meditation

          *Understand the brain science of meditation

          *Differentiate between different types of meditation styles

          *Lead guided meditation groups or individuals

          *Understand the ethics and limitations of a Meditation Instructor

          *Uncover your own unique style as meditation instructor 

          *Find ways to work with your own mind effectively

Course Requirements:

*Attendance of all bi-weekly classes unless other arrangements are made with instructor

*Reflection responses (due each class) on meditation practice and working with one’s own mind

*Demonstration of posture modifications and understanding of posture

*Successfully leading required guided meditations with reflection response and witness feedback

*Verbal/written understanding of: brain science of mindfulness, significant historical (and current) meditation teachers, different meditation styles and practices and ethics of meditation instructors

*Demonstration of leading discussion on mindfulness practice

*Participation in Extended Practice Day

Thursdays 4-5:30pm Sept 14, 28, Oct 12, 26, Nov 9, 30

Or

Mondays 1-2:30 Sept 11, 25, Oct 9, 23, Nov 6, 20

Extended Practice Day on Sat Dec 2 9:30-2:30

Course Fee:  $795  (Price will increase to $995 in 2018)
